Helpers Hide Eggs for the 2015 Easter Egg Hunt

This photograph was taken by Matthew D'Agostino for the White House Historical Association on April 6, 2015, during the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. Here, helpers scatter eggs in a straw-covered pen on the South Lawn, so that children can find them during an Easter egg hunt. Hunting for eggs in a straw enclosure has been a part of the White House Easter Egg Roll since 1981, when President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan introduced wooden souvenir eggs for children to find. In 2015, the theme of the White House Easter Egg Roll was "#GimmeFive," which commemorated the fifth anniversary of First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" campaign by challenging the public to incorporate five new healthy habits into their daily routine, and share their choices on social media. The event featured sports and fitness zones, cooking demonstrations, storytelling, appearances by costumed characters, musical performances, and classic seasonal activities such as the egg hunt and egg roll race.
